Born in 1976 in Hô-Chi-Minh-Ville, Kim KototamaLune lives and works in France, where she spent a long time learning so-called traditional techniques (textiles, model-making, etc.) before turning to glass, which she spins without a matrix “by vacuum”, weld after weld, network after network until a shape emerges.

His organic sculptures bear witness to his multiple interests in neuroscience, quantum physics and Eastern philosophy, which are, among other things, the driving forces behind his plastic arts practice.

Like a vital need to find a way out of her personal history, Kim KototamaLune‘s work creates the possibility of an in-between space, with those interstices “that allow inner movement, from destructive nothingness to fertile emptiness, an emptiness that welcomes and whose spatiality extends to infinity”.

Guided more by a search for meaning than by a formalist aesthetic, the artist questions the connections between inner flows and outer variations, between flesh and matter, between quantum emptiness and the emptiness of origins (Taoist), to reveal the invisible in a visible made of transparency and light.

“These works attempt to recreate a kind of in-between world where all the potentials of life would have a place to activate, because I believe in the power of wonder and poetry to begin to change the way we look at events. It’s a world that would make the link between the visible and the invisible, as well as a kind of sanctuary where recollection is possible in a world where there is ultimately very little space-time to do so once confronted with death.”

“Glass is a liquid that has forgotten who it was,” she tells me. A pretty phrase to indicate that in her work, she solidifies what is initially a liquid. This glass, both transparent and fragile, becomes, under her fingers, an intricately woven fabric, a mysterious lace, a new skin capable of playing with light, a beautiful evocation of Life, both strong and fragile.”
