When art dresses up in jeans.

Ian Berry uses denim like a painter uses paint…

It’s simple, with scissors, a pot of glue and lots of old jeans, he creates illustrations solely from canvases of Jean’s denim.

Ian BERRY (formerly known as Denimu) is a British artist born in 1984 in Yorkshire, based in Poplar, East London.

If you think these are paintings, you’re way off the mark.

Ian Berry reuses jeans, jackets and other denim garments to create portraits, landscapes and other unique works.

Ian began experimenting with art at university, then working at TMW as an art director.

In 2013 he was named one of Art Business News’ influential ’30 under 30′ artists worldwide.

In advertising, he has worked on brands such as the RAF , Nissan , Guinness , British Airways and Talisker whisky .

In addition to London, her work has been shown in galleries and art fairs in Sweden, Portugal and the United States (New Orleans, Miami, Fairmount, Asbury Park, Hamptons, Portland, San Francisco, Paducah).

Ian Berry handles trompe-l’œil to perfection. Although many people associate his works with paintings in blue tones or photorealism, they are actually created using old jeans! The idea simply came to him when he moved back into his parents’ old bedroom and the only object left was a pair of jeans. A vocation with rather original origins.

Ian Berry cuts, sews, layers and glues different pieces and shades of denim to create relief and contrast.

And for his “Denim Legends” series, exhibited in 2022 at Textil Museet in Sweden, Ian demonstrated the extent of his talent by reproducing around sixty incredibly realistic portraits of celebrities such as Madonna and Jimi Hendrix.
